Retirement migration of older women to the ‘global South’ – the example of Kenya

This research project focuses on retirement migration of older women from European countries to Kenya. It addresses two current research gaps. So far older women have hardly received academic attention in international retirement migration. This refers specially concerns research on migration in old age to countries of the “global South”.  This project analyses the reasons why older women migrate to Kenya and focuses particularly on their everyday life worlds and experiences in Kenya. It is carried out on the Kenyan South Coast, a prominent international tourist destination that is simultaneously marked by extreme poverty and social inequality.
